Art Journal Going Forward

Somehow my art journal inspiration leapt forward last month. :) Here are some new pages - first one still a work in progress.
/ Selasin hetki sitten art journaliani ja tajusin projektin edenneen yllättävää vauhtia - jostain oli tullut kolme sivua lisää! Ensimmäinen näistä on toki vielä vaiheessa...

The second page is made with aquarelle pens. The first drawing I made with black ink.
/Omasta päästä piirrettyä, akvarellikynin tussipiirroksen päälle.

This oil pastel page I made during a Spring storm...
/Tapailin kevätmyrskyn tunnelmia öljypastelleilla...
I'm slowly working away my inspiration block which is nice.
/ Ehkä tämä tästä. Inspiraatioblokki on ollut välillä painostava, mutta hetkittäin jotain syntyy.

Time Standing Sights and Their Details

I was really impressed by the age of buildings in Oxford. My home country has very little buildings beyond the architectural eras like Jugendstil or New Classicism.
/ Oxfordissa rakennukset ovat aivan eri ikäluokkaa suomalaisiin verrattuna.
Huolella säilytetyt ja käytössä olevat keskustan rakennukset tekivät minuun vaikutuksen.

The details told their own story about years.
/ Yksityiskohdista saattoi aistia ajan patinan.

There has been many writers who lived in Oxford, like Lewis Carroll and J.R.R. Tolkien.
I would not wonder if some of their inspiration came from the surroundings!
/ Tämän kaupungin lumoissa ovat kenties olleet myös Liisa ihmemaassa ja Taru Sormusten Herrasta -teosten kirjoittavat siellä asuessaan. :)

A week was barely enough to explore the city centre!
Maybe I'll get a better look some day...
/ Viikon matkalla ehti juuri ja juuri tutustua tähän kiehtovaan kaupunkiin!
Toivottavasti pääsen joku päivä uudelleen Oxfordiin...

Inspiring Outdoor Views from England

I totally enjoyed the surroundings of Oxford while being there a week. <3 All the amazing details of buildings and plants were worth photographing.
/ Viikko Oxfordissa oli antoisa. Ympäristöstä löytyi runsaasti kauniita, valokuvaamisen arvoisia yksityiskohtia. Olimme koko ajan liikkeellä, ja jalat kipeytyivät pidemmän päälle. Uteliaisuus kuitenkin ajoi eteenpäin, ennennäkemättömiä näkymiä kohden.

There were a lot of different birds and animals in the meadow areas. Magdalen College even a had a park for deers!
/ Eläimistö oli runsasta niittyjen ja laidunten varsilla. Erään koulun alueella oli jopa aidattu puisto peuroille!
Here are some lovely plants also:
/ Vielä muutama kaunis kasvi:

As you can see we also happened to have a great weather. :) Pretty warm, only little rain and fair amount of sunshine.
/ Sää oli odottamaani parempi. :) Sadekuurot olivat lyhyitä ja aurinko paistoi usein, ja lämpimästi. Matkamme osui kuulemma kevään sateettomimpaan viikkoon.

I'll later post about craft literature I bought and historical buildings with gargoyles. See you soon!
/ Seuraavassa postissa luvassa ostamaani askartelukirjallisuutta sekä kuvia historiallisista rakennuksista gargoileineen. Nähdään pian!

Quick Update

My trip to Great Britain was very enjoyable! I photographed so much that it'll take time to go through all of it. I quickly put to together small glimpse. More is coming! :)
/ Maailmalta on nyt palattu antoisalta reisulta! Valtava määrä kuvia odottaa läpikäymistä, ja sillä välin laitan nopeasti muutaman vilauksen Britanniasta...

I look forward to show all the beautiful sights!
Niin historiallisia kuin luonnon antimia on tulossa!

Nature Awakens

I'm really enjoying the warm sun shine these days!
The Spring came early this year and I truly don't mind that! ;-)
Vaikka ilma on kylmä, auringon lämmöstä on tänä keväänä
saatu nauttia aikaisin. Ihanaa!

Tiny green sprouts are heartwarming...
Oloni on iloinen katsellessani kauniin vihreitä silmuja...
Mallards are just a glimpse of all the bird life I hear while taking walks.
Linnunlaulu siivittää nyt kävelylenkkejä, lukuun ottamatta näitä hiljaisia sorsia.
Cherry blossoms are plentiful and make our small town alive.
Kirsikankukat pienessä keskustassamme tuntuvat luksukselta.

I'm glad of all the beauty I see now.
Näistä hetkistä jokainen tuo luonnon kauneuden lähelleni.

Buns! Sämpylöitä!

Is there anything better than warm buns that are straight from the oven? For me the taste itself is a reason big enough to start preparing a graham sour-dough! :)

Ingredients for 20 pieces:
400 ml. graham flour
50 gr. fresh yeast
500 ml. water
1 tablespoon honey
2 teaspoons salt
700 ml. mixed flour
100 ml. seed, e.g. sesame and sunflower
50 ml. oil

Mix fresh yeast, warm water, salt and honey together in a bowl. Let it swell for five (5) minutes. Mix together the mixed flour and the seeds. Then knead the sour-dough with the seed and flours. Let the dough rise in a warm place, well covered. When the dough is about double of its size, start rolling buns. Let the buns rise about 30 minutes. Heat the oven to 437 Fahrenheit. Bake the risen buns in the middle of the oven about 10 to 15 minutes.

The original recipe (in Finnish) can be found here.

My main "secret ingredient" is a flour mix which contains wheat, oat and maize in various forms. The other is special rapeseed oil. This time I had to use ordinary rapeseed oil which could not give as good flavour as the special one.

Uunituoreet sämpylät ovat sen verran vastustamattomia, että palaan aina uudestaan tämän sämpyläreseptin pariin. :)

Ainekset (noin 20 kappaletta)
4 dl grahamjauhoja
50 g hiivaa
5 dl vettä
1 rkl hunajaa
2 tl suolaa
7 dl moniviljajauhoseosta
1 dl erilaisia siemeniä (auringonkukan- ja seesaminsiemeniä)
1/2 dl öljyä

Liuota hiiva kädenlämpöiseen nesteeseen. Lisää suola, hunaja ja grahamvehnäjauhot. Anna turvota noin viitisen minuuttia. Sekoita moniviljajauhot ja siemenet keskenään. Alusta taikina jauhosiemenseoksella. Lisää alustuksen lopussa öljy. Anna kohota kaksinkertaiseksi. Pyörittele sämpylöiksi ja kohota sämpylät peitettyinä. Paista 225 asteessa uunin keskitasolla 10-15 minuuttia.

Alkuperäinen resepti on Myllyn parhaan grahamjauhopussin kyljestä. Se löytyy myös netistä. Muuntelen sitä useimmiten niin, että laitan vehnäjauhojen sijaan sämpyläjauhoseosta ja siemeniä. Moniviljasta koostuva sämpyläjauhoseos on yksinkertaisesti herkullista! :) Toinen vinkkini on erikoisrypsiöljy. Sen antama maku kutkuttaa ainakin omia makunystyröitäni. Tällä kertaa tein tavallisella rypsiöljyllä, mutta jäin kuitenkin kaipaamaan tätä "salaista" ainesosaani.
